Carrying the sword against prostate cancer for the next generation.
Partnerships
The Action Team is a volunteer organization. Our partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS) allows us to provide culturally appropriate brochures developed by the Action Team to promote awareness and survivor support. Additionally, pharmaceutical companies often donate incentive items for distribution at community events and limited financial support. We frequently partner with community cancer centers and other localized health entities.
We are also involved with the Prostate Cancer Coalition of North Carolina (PCCNC). To this end, the team focuses on engaging African-American communities and communities of color in prostate cancer control and distribution of critical information. Our collective goal is to replicate activities throughout the state (with an emphasis on eastern North Carolina) to increase knowledge and awareness of the prostate cancer health disparity impacting African-American men.
The Action Team also partners with the General Baptist State Convention, the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities, and Old North State Medical Society.
Annually, we partner with Springfield Baptist Church and WakeMed to provide an education and awareness event in Raleigh and Word Tabernacle Church and OIC to provide a similar event in Rocky Mount.
Nationally we partner with the Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN) to increase the participation of African-American men in clinical trials and to bring the play “Daddy’s Boys” to North Carolina.
